Verizon’s data plans run on their 4G LTE network, with typical download speeds of 5-12 Mbps and upload speeds of 2-5 Mbps. That’s much faster than the average speeds of other major carriers.

Verizon also lets you customize the data you want, offering two types of Unlimited data plans in addition to plans with 2GB, 4GB, 5GB, or 8GB of data. If you and your family are typically light web surfers who don’t stream tons of movies or videos, you can opt for one of Verizon’s smaller data plans and pay less than the cost of Unlimited. On the flip side, if your family streams heavily and needs Unlimited data, there are two convenient plans to choose from: Go Unlimited and Beyond Unlimited.

Go Unlimited has unlimited 4G LTE data, talk & text, DVD quality video streaming (phones are SD at 480p while tablets are HD at 720p) and mobile hotspot with speeds up to 600 Kbps. However, data speeds on Go Unlimited may be temporarily slower in times of congestion.

Beyond Unlimited has unlimited 4G LTE data, talk & text, HD quality video streaming (phones are HD at 720p and tablets are HD at 1080p) and mobile hotspot with speeds of 4G LTE up to the first 15GB and up to 600 Kbps after the first 15GB. Data speeds on Beyond Unlimited may be temporarily slower in times of congestion, too – but only after 22GB/line has been used.

Have friends and family in Mexico or Canada? Beyond Unlimited also includes unlimited calls from the US to Mexico and Canada, in addition to international data in both countries if you’re there visiting. Just be careful not to use more than 50% of your talk, text, or data usage in 60 days in Mexico or Canada: if you do, use of services in those countries may be limited or removed.
